Scholarships & Bursary -

Information & Application

Maharishi School offers several opportunities for primary school-aged students.

These include:

  • The Reg Blow Scholarship for children of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander identity

  • The Elsie Coates Scholarship for children of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander identity

  • The Frances Clarke Scholarship for children of parents who practise Transcendental Meditation

  • Financial Hardship Bursary for children of parents satisfying the school’s criteria for financial support

Each of these scholarships/bursaries provides support and encouragement for a primary school student enrolling at the school for the first time. The Scholarship/Bursary Application Form is available upon request by contacting the school, and submission will be considered for the scholarship/bursary for which the application is made. 

  • A scholarship will be awarded to the successful applicant, with a percentage of the School Tuition Fee reduction applied to each year of the student’s primary schooling.

  • A bursary will be awarded to the successful applicant, with a percentage of the School Tuition Fee reduction applied to each year of the student’s primary schooling but conditional on an annual review of the family’s financial position, requiring the submission of supporting evidence to determine continued eligibility. Consideration will be given to applicants who can display potential to thrive in the primary school environment and who would benefit from financial support.


Selection Criteria

  • Australian citizen or permanent resident.

  • Applications for the scholarship/bursary will be considered as appropriate to a student’s stage of development.

    1. Ongoing commitment by the student to Consciousness-Based education and Transcendental Meditation

    2. Active meditators of the Transcendental Meditation technique

    3. Demonstrated commitment to academic endeavour.

    4. Evidence of ability to successfully transition into the primary school environment. (E.g. Transition reports, school reports, etc.)

    5. A capacity and willingness to participate in all aspects of school life to enhance their academic, social and emotional development.

    6. Have a positive attitude towards school and maintaining timely and high attendance.

    7. Agreement to the terms and conditions of the scholarship.

  • The candidate must demonstrate the following, relevant to their age and year level at time of application:

    1. A commitment to achieving their best academically.

    2. Social and emotional skills that are aligned with our school’s values of kindness, respect, compassion and acceptance.

    3. Effective skills of communication and cooperation

    4. Has been an outstanding ambassador for his/her pre-school/primary school and a role model for others.

    5. Displays an enthusiasm for learning.

    6. Proven willingness to participate and lead in classroom activities.

In addition to the above selection criteria, the following criteria also apply to the specific scholarship/bursary:

The Reg Blow Scholarship & the Elsie Coates Scholarship: 

  • Identifying as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander

Financial Hardship Bursary

  • Demonstrated need for financial assistance


Selection Process

A selection panel will review all scholarship and bursary applications and assess them against the selection criteria. The selection panel will include representatives of the School’s Senior Management Team and Board. After considering all applications, the selection panel will recommend the selected applicants for the approval of the School Board. The panel may choose to shortlist applicants and invite those shortlisted to an interview. Applicants will be notified in writing of the outcome. 


Application Form & Attachments

To be considered for a Primary School Scholarship/Bursary, parents should complete the application form on behalf of their child. The following additional information should be submitted to support the application: 

  • A copy of all pages of the child’s two most recent school reports

  • Written reference from current school setting attesting to the child’s School Achievements (see above)


Submitting Your Application

Once the application has been completed and all elements are collated (including references as required) it should be submitted for review.
