Principal’s Report

Dear Parents and Students,

I hope you enjoyed a relaxing and re-energising long weekend, if you were fortunate enough to have the time off.

In keeping with the Spring Carnival parlance, we have now entered the home straight of the 2016 school year…and what a
year it has been. We plan to maintain the narrative of this year and end our school year on a high note.

Read below for the events and activities that are yet to come.

2016 Celebration Evening – “Our Journey in 2016”.
This event is a new addition to our school calendar. Its purpose is to celebrate student achievement throughout the year. All students will be acknowledged during the evening.

The event will be held on Monday 12th December at 6.30pm at the Rivergum Theatre at Parade College Bundoora. It is the same venue in which we held our school production at the end of Term 3.

Our theme for this year is “Our Journey 2016”.
The evening will include the presentation of student awards, speeches by key people of our school including staff, students and parents. We will also revisit some of the student performances that highlighted our year. Undoubtedly, there will also be one or two surprises.

Although there is no charge for this event for our school community, there is a maximum of 8 tickets per family so you will
need to book your seats by the RSVP date on the event flyer which is attached to this newsletter.

Year 6 Graduation Dinner
This annual and traditional event will this year be held on Monday 28th November. It is an opportunity for those who have worked closest with the Year 6 students throughout 2016; parents, teachers and classmates to acknowledge the end of their primary school years.

The event will be held at The Bussaracum Thai Restaurant in Ivanhoe.

Launch of New School Website (7 Nov 2016)
We invite our school community to visit the new and revised Maharishi School website when it is launched on Monday. The purpose for its renewal is a general update but also an attempt to capture the essence and benefits of the school for the education and development of children during the most important years of their development. To be able to do so in a manner that captures the attention of those who have yet to discover “The Educational Oasis of the North” is also paramount in our considerations.

We hope we have achieved our goals but the proof will be in the feedback we get from you and others who visit the site. Do not hesitate to share your thoughts with me. We value the opinion of those to whom this promotional tool is aimed.

Parent Survey – Before & After-School Care
This week you should have received a hard-copy of a survey, sent to you via your children, which addresses the possibility of our school operating a Before & After-School Care Service to assist parents with their commitments before and after school. We are interested in your thoughts and encourage honest feedback that will help us determine whether such a service would be used by a reasonable number of families to make it a viable option for us.

Surveys are to be completed and returned by Monday 7th November.

Trial Lunch Orders
During a number of meetings with the Student Representative Council this year, the suggestion of a school canteen has been raised with me by the students. This is something that could be achieved but only with a lot of health regulations needing to be satisfied for the preparation of food on-site.
Alternatively, we have sourced an external provider who is prepared to trial a lunch order service with us but with the
following conditions:

– Delivery only available on a Thursday
– We would need a minimum number of 30 orders each Thursday
– There would be limitations around what can be ordered from the menu i.e. sushi, meal deals, super saver deals only.

I am happy for us to trial this over the next few weeks to see what we all think of the service, the quality of food and whether it is something we should investigate further but we can only do so if we get a commitment from 30 students for a weekly lunch order.

I have attached a sample menu from the provider, Miss Peppercorn. Our school’s menu will not be as extensive for choice but this gives you an idea about the menu available.
If you are prepared to commit to this initiative for the next 4-5 weeks, we will be sending you a Tiqbiz message to which we need your response by 9am on Monday 7th. We will then determine if we can proceed. Either way, we will notify you but if we do proceed, we will send you further instructions with a link and code which you will use to order and make payment online direct to Miss Peppercorn.

Alumni of the Maharishi School
On Sunday 23rd October, our school held its first official gathering of the Maharishi School Alumnus. We were excited to welcome over 60 people to our Breakfast Event, including parents who wanted to return and reconnect with other parents and school staff. The event, which kicked off at 10.30am was an incredible success and the 12.00pm anticipated finishing time was quickly forgotten and was eventually revised to 3.00pm.

You will see from the photos below the range of ages of past students who attended. It was so heart-warming to see and speak with these young people (and their parents) and to have reinforced to us the impact that Maharishi School made to their lives.
